The
beginning of our cattery
At the start of 2000, we were
fascinated by a photo of a Mau which we came
across in a book. We were simply charmed, here, was the cat of
our dreams!
We spent many days searching for breeders of Maus. We visited
cat shows, scanned magazines and the Internet. Finally, we found
the cats that delighted us so much - 'Haireke' (a bronze female) and
Anubis (a silver male). It was a proud and memorable day for we
had the first couple of Maus in Belgium.
This was the start of a
beautiful story...

Anubis
 |
De
Joha Anubis of Mauisha was our first silver male, born on 03/10/1999. His ancestors were prize-winners and recognised grand champions.
'Anubis' was practically "glued" to us and loved to walk about
on our shoulders. Whenever we sat down, he leaped into our laps. He would have kept us seated for ages, if he had had his way. He
adored the kttens and helped 'Haireke' with their feeding.
Always sociable, he cuddled up with the other cats. We felt that if he
met a large "monster', he would have wanted to play with it.
'Anubis' had large, seductive, green eyes. It was impossible to resist so much charm, friendship and noble beauty.
'Anubis' died in a car accident but will always hold his place in our hearts.

Haireke
 |
CH De Joha Haireke of Mauisha is
our bronze cat, born on 28/10/1999. She comes from prestigious
lineage and great champions. 'Haireke' is occasionally a little
timid with strangers but very quickly her curiosity will get the better
of her and you will be enchanted by her sparkling personality.
'Haireke' is a superb mother
who raises her litters with great care. A little stern according
to some kittens but such an attentive mum with her babies and us.
'Haireke' is keen for her kittens to sample all sorts of food and when
she notices that our meal is left unguarded on the dinner table, she
will quickly steal fish or meat to take to her young. If we should
rebuke her for stealing, she will sulk for awhile. 'Haireke' has
an amusing character and is simply incredible. |
We toyed with many names for our small, family-run cattery and the
most appealing was Mauisha.
'Mau' means Cat in Egypt and 'Isha' means Hello in Hebrew.
|
Our philosophy:
To participate in
the breeding and preservation of an incomparable breed which is
still quite rare. The Mau has an exceptional personality
and an excellent temperament due to a careful and healthy
breeding programme.
Our cattery at
the present moment
Isabelle and
Veronique (mother and daughter) team up to manage the cattery.
Our Maus live in our house together with other family members,
cats and even dogs. We spend masses of time playing,
caressing and loving them. Our cats are inexorably curious
- little busybodies - they are our constant
companions and somehow after a few days with them, we discover
we cannot live without them. They are very active and
adore chasing after a feather toy. We will present our
cats to you one by one, further along in this site.
